Over thirteen years and a World of Adventure has passed since we started Rubicon Outdoors. Since the Summer of 1998, we have offered high quality Rock Climbing and Hiking programs for teenagers, groups, families and adults in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Southwest, Switzerland and South Africa. We are very fortunate and are honored to have an incredible group of Friends and Guides that continue to work with us—and discover with us. We look forward to another generation of Friends and Family that will continually cross the Rubicon in search of "A World of Adventure." |

Troy Haines is the founder and owner of Alpine Hikers. I was first introduced to the Alps while studying in West Berlin in 1989. On a break from my studies, I made the first of many trips to these wonderful mountains. It was love at first sight. The rugged, imposing power of the surrounding peaks combined with the peaceful, cultural allure of the villages below formed a powerful attraction for me. Finally, I moved to the Alps myself, living and working in the hotels in Mürren, and spent many happy summers wandering the trails and discovering new places. In the meantime, I earned a degree in linguistics from Stanford, taught 1st Aid and CPR classes for the American Red Cross, and led rock-climbing, hiking, and cross-country skiing trips. I love meeting and walking with new people in beautiful places, and hope to find many others on these tours who share the same love of life and discovery that I do. |

Deirdre has spent the last twenty five years exploring and working in the natural world around her. Much of that time has been spent in the quite corners of the southwest. Truly drawn to the intricate landscapes, the meeting of water and desert, sky and mountains, silent canyons. She is in awe of the plants and animals that have adapted to this rugged beautiful place. Herself, making a life in the land. Her first time to the Grand Canyon was in 1982 on a rafting trip through the bottom of the canyon. Since then much time has been spent on many more river trips, backpacking trips between the rim and river, and mountain bike rides on both rims. Deirdre loves taking people into the Grand Canyon backcountry where they can push past perceived limitations and immerse themselves in the grandest canyon in the world. |

Raised in Indiana where he spent the majority of his childhood in the woods and on two wheels, Greg holds an undergraduate degree from Indiana University Bloomington, a mecca for cyclists of every shape and color. His diploma says "Video Production," but Greg has worked in the cycling industry in one capacity or another for 15 years, working in bike shops, guiding in Alaska, taking shovels to trails and promoting grassroots cycling events.
When he's not out on the trails, you'll find him scouring over permits and topo maps in the field operations department at Prescott College, playing farmer in his organic veggie garden, and spending every minute he can with his wife and two little boys.
"If it has two wheels and I'm the motor... sign me up." |

I grew up in Houston, with early adventuring limited to bayou canoeing and buildering interspersed with trips to the Ozarks to visit my father. I began climbing on real rock 20 years ago and began teaching and guiding 3 years later. I graduated from Prescott College with a degree in Adventure Based Education. Since then I have worked as an outdoor educator and guide for organizations in several states: I guided climbing for the Colorado Mountain School in Rocky Mountain National Park, I've taught rock climbing and backpacking for Prescott College, and worked with youth at risk along the Appalachian trail in Georgia. When I am not guiding for Rubicon I work as a Firefighter and Paramedic for the Prescott Fire Department. And when I am not doing that I am at home with my wife and kids in a sweet little spot along Walnut Creek in the middle of somewhere special. Kevin is a Certified Single Pitch Instructor by the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA). |

Born and raised right in Prescott, Arizona I have spent my entire life seeking adventure in the outdoors. From my earliest memories as a Boy Scout waking up in the deserts and mountains of the Southwest to my most recent time spent in the San Juan Mountains in Southwestern Colorado, I have always had a deep passion for being outdoors. From a very early age I have been an avid cyclist, climber, backpacker, and naturalist. My true passion in life is cycling and I have ridden in almost every western state searching for the best trails and people around. What I have found, is that I was fortunate enough to have grown up in what I feel is one of the greatest mountain biking secrets in the Western United States. I have worked as bike mechanic for more than twelve years, raced for Fort Lewis College’s 2008 winning team at collegiate nationals, and love to take others in the natural world on my favorite horse, my bike. |

Growing up in the mountains surrounding Bozeman, MT is where I gained my passion for the natural world. My mom first took me climbing at the age of 5 and I have been captivated ever since. I have been rock climbing since 1986, teaching climbing since 2002, and mountain and glacier guiding since 2008. Since graduating from Prescott College with a degree in Wilderness Leadership and Conservation Biology, I have been blessed to pursue my passion for the outdoors as a career. Guiding lets me follow my degree as an environmental educator and keeps me completely joyful, and I love sharing that joy with other people! I am certified as a wilderness first responder and in basic CPR and first aid. My most recent life-changing event was the birth of my beautiful baby girl in June of 2010. When I’m not climbing or guiding you can find me at my cozy home with my partner Michael, our daughter Aven and our dog Post, or out for a run in the hills of Prescott. |

His wife and kids call him a homebody but the truth is, for John, there really is no place like home. His complete admiration for Prescott’s culture, atmosphere and outstanding trail system led this Chicago-born/Phoenix-raised guy to move his family north in 2001 and they have been taking advantage of it all ever since. Not one to sit on the sidelines, John spends his spare time from being a firefighter immersed in Prescott happenings. As a course director for the annual Whiskey Off-Road Mountain bike event or as a founding board member for the Prescott Mountain Bike Alliance (PMBA), John’s 20+ years of racing lends him priceless experience and knowledge. John started guiding hikes, climbs and mountain bike rides more than 15 years ago. His mantra regarding Prescott ’s gem outdoor recreation options? Spread the wealth. Oh yeah, and have fun doing it. |
